About a week ago I went to see Steve Vai, one of the world’s most unique guitarists, at a Master Class. It was one of the most inspiring experiences of my life. In fact, the night was life changing for me as much of what Steve spoke about was the impetus of my decision to quite a job I hated and go full-time with Internet marketing. So much of what he shared was not about playing guitar, but about reaching your potential.
The night I enjoyed was very similar to what you can see in the video. I have pulled some quotes from the video which I hope you find inspiring. The song from the video is called “Whispering a Prayer”.
Get clarity -
I think the first thing is that we need to identify what it is we really want. Because whatever it is that you really want, that’s what’s gonna come out.
Work your strengths -
I’ve got strengths and I’ve got weaknesses. I don’t work on my weaknesses, I ignore them and I cultivate my strengths.
The way you think -
The level of achievement that we have at anything is a reflection of how well we were able to focus on it. Because the only thing that is holding you back is the way you’re thinking.
Your prophecy -
The more you are able to crystalise that (your) vision the more you gonna become a self fulfilling prophecy.
The big picture -
Whenever you get discouraged, go to the big picture. Go back to that place of excitment. That’s how you get through it. You go the big picture, you go to the chief aim. Because it is so crystalised in your head that when you know when you feel like “I can’t do this ” .. you go back to that picture and you can see you yourself doing it.
Put the work in -
Now you gotta put the work in. It’s no work! There’s no work involved because it is all a joy. Because you know you are reaching you goal.
What’s your juice? -
..but when it came to my feelings about what I do and my success, so to speak, never struggled a day in my life, because for me playing guitar was my juice.
